Orthodontic Emergency Care

Poking wire or loose bracket? Don’t panic — here’s what to do, and how we’ll help you get comfortable fast.

Quick answer

Most orthodontic issues — a poking wire, a loose bracket or general soreness — aren’t true emergencies and can be eased at home until we see you. If you have severe pain, swelling or trauma to the mouth or face, seek medical care first, then call us at (705) 431-0027.

Common issues & quick fixes

  • Poking wire: Use the eraser end of a pencil to gently tuck it back, or cover the end with orthodontic wax.
  • Loose bracket: Leave it in place if it’s still on the wire, cover it with wax for comfort, and call us to arrange a repair.
  • General soreness: Rinse with warm salt water, eat softer foods, and use over-the-counter relief if needed.
  • Lost aligner or retainer: Wear your previous set if you have it, and call us right away.
